character name: Tywin Lannister
Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire
Timeline: A Sword of Storms – Just before Joffrey’s Wedding Feast
character's age: 57/58
powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Ability wise, Tywin is not the swordsman that his son Jaime is, but he can use a sword and does possess some skill at it. While he might not be the strongest or the fastest, Lord Tywin is known more for his apt and keen mind. He is not a young boy and has considerable experience. As people are often stating about him, he is too smart and he is no man’s fool. He knows that swords don’t always win a war but that words can too. He is the type of man who uses his resources well and to the best of their ability. He is crafty, cunning and manipulative. He also has not allowed his body to go out of shape and instead looks strong and in shape.
He doesn’t have any actual ‘pets’ unless you count the 'monsters' that work under him nor will he be bringing in his white charger. Given his current canon point, he is also not wearing his full battle armor as seen for example in “Fire and Blood” but more so the attire he wore in “The Pointy End” when speaking with Tyrion. He will also have his Hand of the King chain as well as his longsword with a gold pommel.
As for Scorched, in the books he is often referred to as being as hard as a man of twenty and of being fit. The mist will take away some of those old age problems and make him more agile and spry. This will not increase his actually fighting skills but simply give him some more endurance.
It will also grant him a “Force Field” as he is a man of force. The force field will have the ability to grow over time, starting off at shield size and not lasting for too long. Over time, it will be able to grow both in size and duration, allowing him to cover more and more area, until he is able to make a dome around himself. This field will protect him from all manners of attack for a time, but if attacks are continually hurled at the field, it will weaken over time. It will require some amount of focus to maintain but this will grow easier as the months pass by. This field is limited to himself but if it grows large enough, he can protect those within the realm of his field.
It will also grant him Probability manipulation. He is the type of man who will make things go his way in the books even when it seems like things won’t. What this does is causes unlikely events to occur, aka "good luck", starting off with a now and then ability until it becomes more often and stronger. From time to time it will backfire and it does require some degree of concentration. He will also be immune to Probability manipulation used on himself.

personality:
To understand Tywin, a good place to start is in the beginning. Tywin is the son of Tytos. His father was a friendly man but a weak-willed one. He was eager to please other people and by doing so, he mishandled the Lannister money. Thanks to him the house was all but in ruins when Tywin became lord. While people might have mocked the toothless lion, when Tywin came into power, he went to cleaning up the messes that his father had made. Other houses had borrowed heavily against them and didn't bother to repay. His father was often mocked and because of this, Tywin came to dislike laughter and rarely smiled.
With the death of his father, Tywin moved to bring the former glory of House Lannister and Casterly Rock back. He had his father's mistress stripped and confess that she was a thief before he cast her out. When other houses became defiant, he made sure to make an impression. Tywin destroyed House Tarbeck and House Reyne for their insolence and disobedience leaving only ruins as a reminder to any and all of what it meant to go up against him. He was not his father. Against this backdrop is how Lord Tywin of House Lannister came to be.
As Tyrion states, "my father is the soul of avarice" and this is true. The words of House Lannister might be Hear Me Roar but their other motto is just as fitting. A Lannister always pays his debts. Tywin is a man who does just that. Cross him, and you shall be like House Reyne. Those who even think of crossing him will soon learn that he has a watchful eye nor is he above sending a message. If need be, to a truculent lord, he would sent an envoy with a lute to play the Rains of Castamere as reminder. It is all that is needed to keep people in line. No man, either, shall shed Lannister blood without impunity and when two Lannister blood are killed while under Robb's watch, all those know that the wrath of Lord Tywin will be felt. There is magic in the name of Lord Tywin and everyone knows that.
He is the type of man who makes things happen. If there is no hole, he will a fist and produce one. He is not the sort to sit idly by while anyone does anything against the Lannister name. He is a seasoned battle commander though and knows much of strategy. He is not in the same class of fighter as his eldest son, Jaime, but that doesn't count Tywin out. His is a cold and calculating mind. He thinks many steps a head of others and works to get the end that he desires. He knows that wars are not always won with swords. By writing, he managed to end Robb without lifting his blade or bloodying his hands.
That, too, is another trait of him. While men like Ned Stark might go and chop off heads themselves, Tywin happens to 'hold' many 'monsters' that do such things for him. Rarely does he bloody his own hands when he has others to do it for him leaving his clean. He is the type of man who knows the use of people and puts them in the position where they might be of most use. He is also the sort of man who will dispose of his 'beasts' if there comes a time when their usefulness is at an end. To those who do not do as they are told, he is more than happy to teach them a lesson. To the deserters, he had their knees broken so that they could not run away again.
His most intricate relations are with his family members. His father married his sister off to Emmon Frey, a match that Tywin found unsuitable for his sister. He made that well known and Emmon lives in terror of him. He does have a decent relationship with his siblings, but it can be noted that once when Genna said that Tyrion was more his son than Jaime, Tywin did not speak to his sister for a very long time. His brother, Kevan, is said to seldom have a thought that Tywin had not had first and he does often voice the things that Tywin would say. Then, there are also his children. He has twins, Cersei and Jaime, and the dwarf, Tyrion.
Believe it or not, his marriage to his cousin Joanna is said to have been a happy one. People often said that although Tywin ruled the Seven Kingdoms as Hand, it was Joanna who ruled him at home. He apparently also smiled in her presence. His firstborn is Cersei, but she is a woman so would never inherit first. Instead, he used her to further the Lannister cause by having her wed to Robert Baratheon. For him, it is always about House Lannister and the new era that they will bring in. Even when she is widowed, he turns to think of the next marriage that can benefit the realm and will use Cersei to secure that.
It is Jaime to whom he turned to inherit Casterly Rock. That of course turned to ash when his son joined the Kingsguard. Yet, that does not stop Tywin from pressing the issue. His last child, Tyrion, will never inherit, ever. Tywin and Tyrion are quite similar, but never say that in Tywin's presence. To him, the dwarf killed his wife. There is also the fact of how said son behaves. He states that he was clearly given a son such as him to shame him and teach him humility. He despises what his son is and the fact that he sleeps around with whores. A part of the reason that Tywin will never allow Tyrion to inherit is because he will not have the Rock made into a whorehouse. It is only because of men's laws that Tywin allows Tyrion to wear the lion and Lannister colors. To him, Tywin is a shame.
Over all Tywin is as cool as snow. He often seems unperturbed and will often sit quietly. He will listen before he speaks and he often ignores any sallies that are tossed his way. He is said to have a lord's face and no one could ever imagine Tywin laughing. Even his smiles are not warm and when someone seems the glint of one start to come, they should be wary. He is ruthless and controlling, wanting things to go his way and it is often through brute force that he gets things done. Yet, it is not all about him. No, it is about the glory of House Lannister now but also in the future. He wants them to be respected and feared - not mocked and ridiculed. He often thinks before he acts, which makes him a threat. He waited until the war was all but won before choosing a side, but he ordered the deeds that no others wanted to do. It can be said that his biggest annoyance is that his children do not comply to his wishes and chose the paths that he has deemed fit for them.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?
Tywin would have no issues with being in this setting. He is a man of force and will who turned around his family name. They were once the laughing stock of the Seven Kingdoms and now they are a force to be feared. He is calculating and by no means green. He has been to battle and has seen death. He has fought in wars and has learned over the years many traits that make him a force to be reckoned with. There are few who care to openly cross Lord Tywin and those who do by other means, know that he will always pay his debts. He is ruthless and controlling and will not settle for second best. He is a man that gets things done.

To anyone who might have been looking in to the room at that moment, Lord Tywin could very well have passed for a statue. To any who knew him - and were intelligent enough to comprehend his moods - they would understand the position that he had taken. He was thinking. This was nothing new.
He had woken up some time before now in this strange room and many things had become clear since that time. Many things were also not clear though. These were what he was pondering upon. Unlike his eldest son, Tywin was not a man prone for immediate action. No. First came thought. He was a man of cunning and of force. He knew when to act and when not too - something that many who had faced him had not yet to learn. Hence why he still survived while they lay rotting in the ground or on riverbanks or some unnamed place where none might recall who they were.
Initially, he might have thought that another house was behind this. It was war and men did what needed to be done. Tywin knew this most of all. They had come late to the Baratheon cause and had needed to prove their loyalty to the crown. With the actions that Tywin had set into motion, there could be no doubt about who they had sided with. He had commanded to be done what Robert couldn't stomach to do and had seeled his fate and the fate of his house. There was no turning back from that.
If it had been another house, the questions that arose were who and how. The why was easy enough to answer given the current state of the realm. There were no banners within the room, no signals and no clue as to who might be behind it. A smart move. One sniff of who his enemy might by, and Tywin would make sure to pay the debt back. He always had, as his enemies had come to learn early on. Only ruins remained of those once noble houses and that memory - that fear - kept others in check.
Yet, for one to be so smart as to not show their true color, they had left Tywin with his sword. He was not the fighter that his son was but by no means was he a toothless lion like his father had been. He was still a man who was fit and trim. He had not allowed a life of indulgence to take these things away from him nor would he ever. He would never be his father and it was one of the very many reasons he so disdained his youngest.
So the who then remained hidden. The how did not become any clearer either. This was not King's Landing and he knew not where it was. He had traveled the realm but he was not aware of every nook and cranny out there. Yet this place bore the look of none he had seen before. The room itself was sparse but not unadorned. He had found food and water as well as a bag containing what might very well be money and a strange piece of - of what he wasn't even sure.
His mind was made up though. More answers would be needed in order to paint a clearer picture. Right now the sketch was rough. Sitting here would accomplish nothing but departing this room might very well start him down the right path. Firstly, to see if any would stop his departure from this space. He hadn't noticed anyone when he had glimpsed through those steely green eyes earlier but that didn't mean they weren't there.
And when he found them... They should well remember the other saying of House Lannister. Always pays their debts.
Anything else? My first d_m was under the assumption of taking Tywin later in the books from when Tommen reigned. So his interactions with Joff will be slightly different. The boy is still alive and is the king. Tywin is of the view that the boy can be 'saved' and make a decent king. He will still be gruff with him but not quite the same as how I originally threaded.
